The Wesburn Weekly August 6

Our conversation last night at ‘Me & My Mum’ was centred on the challenges that Mums (and Dads) may face raising their children.  Issues included completing homework, children fighting, bedtime, etc.  What is amazing is that we all face these issues and it is great to see that others have either gone through (and survived) or are experiencing some of these challenging times.  It is also helpful to hear of how others may have tackled these issues so that you can determine what is the right thing to do in your circumstances.  I also appreciated hearing what parents felt was the best way to manage homework.  I will pass this onto the staff.

Parent/Teacher interviews commence at 3.30 this afternoon.  I am hoping that every parent has made an appointment to catch up for ten minutes to discuss the progress of each of their children.  If you have not done this already, please endeavour to make a time on another day by contacting the school and speaking to the teachers involved.  The very best parent/teacher interviews occur when both parties actively listen to each other and work together to develop a plan of action that will ensure improved learning outcomes for students.

Grade 5/6 camp notices went out last night and grade 3/4 notices will come home tonight.  Please ensure that you read all the documents and return the signed Camp Agreement and Medical Forms to school.  Students are unable to attend camp without these forms.

Today we celebrated School Services Officers Week.  Mrs Karnaghan, Mrs Nippers, Mrs Parsons, Mrs Toone, Mrs Walsh and Mrs Windebank all were recognised for the fantastic work they do to ensure that Wesburn School runs smoothly and efficiently and that all the students get the extra support that they need.  From my perspective, these are people that go way beyond the call of duty and who willingly put in many extra hours of work and take on extra responsibility to advance our school.  If you get the chance this week please take the time to thank these staff who work so closely with your children.

Yesterday morning Pam, the school crossing lady, had a very narrow miss on the crossing.  This is not the first time, and it demonstrates that this is a very important job in ensuring the safety of students and parents who use the crossing.  We are concerned at the number of parents (and others) who come down the highway at a great rate of knots and who also turn out of Wylie Street and immediately accelerate hard to head back along the highway.  Please stop!  I would be very grateful if any witnesses to yesterday’s incident would contact me at school.

Finally, we have already begun planning for next year and would ask people who intend to enrol children, especially preps for 2009, to do so as soon as possible.  Remember that future preps are invited to attend Stepping Stones the last hour of each Monday during third term.

Until next week…

Anne
