Wesburn Weekly September 10

Yesterday, four students represented Wesburn at an interschool public speaking competition. Keita, Caitlyn, Jordy and Sarah were absolutely delightful and Pastor Luke was extremely proud of their performances. Congratulations girls. Public speaking is only one way in which we are endeavouring to develop students’ abilities in speaking and listening. Grade 5/6 students also regularly present the ‘Schools In’ programme on the local radio station VYV. Most students have recently been presenting talks in their grades so, if you haven’t heard your child, ask them about it at home.

Four girls that did a brilliant job!

Four girls that did a brilliant job!

An interactive whiteboard was installed in the grade 5/6 room on Monday and students and Mrs Ward are extremely excited about the professional development on how to use these that they are participating in today. Each of these boards costs over $5000 but they are another great resource that can be used to engage and teach students in the classroom. Please feel free to drop in before or after school if you are interested in looking at this equipment; I’m sure Mrs Ward would be keen to show it off. We plan to install another interactive whiteboard in the 3/4 room next year.

Tomorrow’s Captain’s Table for all Prep parents will be held at 10 am in the dining room. I am really looking forward to listening and sharing views on the transition process, how the prep year has been for students and parents to date, how to meet and get involved in school life, etc. while at the same time sharing morning tea. I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow.

Visitors to the school during the coming holidays will notice activity related to water use appliances such as drinking taps, vanity basin taps, toilets and urinals. Plumbers are installing the water efficiency measures recommended by our water efficiency audit. This is the next stage in our Schools Water Efficiency Project undertaken as part of the Australian Government Water Fund Community Water Grant of $39,500. Water savings will occur as a result of installation of self-closing taps, replacement of old toilets with dual flush and installation of no flush urinal system. Three water tanks and a couple of pumps will also be installed for toilet flushing and to provide water to a drip feed watering system to all the kitchen gardens. Once the works are completed, we will arrange a hand over ceremony.

At the same time as the water works are occurring, an electrician will be upgrading our electrical supply and we will be installing air conditioners into the multi-purpose room and the new grade 5/6 room. It is certainly going to be a busy holiday period!

From time to time families in our school community need a little extra support. There are so many reasons why this may be, but I would like to take the opportunity of thanking the many considerate and caring people of our school who have been helping others. You know who you are, and I know that you are greatly appreciated.

Until next week …

Anne
