Throughout Term 3 the Grade 3/4W children worked incredibly hard on completing a class quilt. The quilt features a picture the children have drawn of themselves doing their favourite Olympic sport. It also has a border made up of miniature flags from all around the world. To create the quilt the children learnt how to thread a needle and also what the difference is between a needle and a pin and between wool, string and cotton. They sewed in straight lines and crooked ones, created knots and untied them, created loops and swirls in the cotton that even I couldn’t fix.
The end result is a sensational quilt that went on show at the local Lilydale show last weekend. The hard work was rewarded. Despite being judged against other school quilts, the grade won FIRST PRIZE!!!!!!
Once the passion for sewing was started with the quilt, I haven’t been able to stop them. They have gone on to sew miniature quilts, balls, cushions and we are currently working on creating our own puppets. I am extremely proud of all they have achieved. Well done Grade 3/4W!!!! Fantastic effort.
