Swimming started this week, and what perfect weather we are having for children to want to learn to swim. Congratulations to those attending as they are representing our school so well while, at the same time, really striving to improve their swimming skills.
I am very concerned at the number of students who are coming to school out of uniform. This is particularly relevant to upper school students - just because a t-shirt has a background school colour doesn’t mean that it is school uniform. Examples of what I am talking about include black t-shirts with ‘Hard Rock Café’ and various other logos, pictures and writing (often offensive) on them. Excuses such as ‘Mum hasn’t done the washing yet’ also wear a bit thin when it said daily and the weather is so beautiful. Likewise, it is totally inappropriate for students to be wearing ‘Crocks’ shoes to school. This is an accident waiting to happen. I would ask that parents please ensure that their children are sent to school in full school uniform.
Students and staff stopped for a minute’s silence yesterday to remember the Australians who fought and died overseas to protect our country. Teachers discussed what Remembrance Day meant to Australians and why it is so important to us all. Mrs Hanson represented our school (the only school represented from the Valley) and laid a wreath at the Remembrance Day Ceremony at Warburton.
Currently students and teachers are working very hard in order to achieve the best results they can by the end of the year. It is particularly important for grade 6 students to be striving to do their best as they will need to be well prepared for secondary school. Keep working hard everybody, it will be well worth your efforts and you will know that you have truly deserved the coming holidays.
Parent-teacher partnerships, where parents and teachers work as a team to help children to achieve their best, are one of the most important factors in any child’s education. Children who experience a positive link between parents and teachers are more likely to have a positive attitude towards school. Key points are:
· Parent-teacher partnerships are essential, vital and critical
· Positive links between parents and teachers create positive attitudes to school
· Parent involvement will help children progress at school, build trust, and resolve differences
· Parent-teacher partnerships, like any teamwork, benefit from keeping the lines of communication open and showing mutual respect.
Until next week …
