I hope that you picked a winner yesterday and enjoyed the Melbourne Cup Day holiday.
Swimming starts next Monday. Outstanding payments for this programme need to be paid no later than next Monday morning. Could I also remind parents that, when children wear their bathers to school underneath their school uniform they often forget that they will need underwear to put on after they have finished swimming! The absence of these can have a huge impact on the things you are able to do at lunchtime - think about it. So, would you please make sure that children have packed in their swimming bags a towel, underwear and probably a comb as well.
Last week I shared some great tips about preparing your children for school. This week I want to explain about the shared responsibility for your child’s education. Did you know that developing an enthusiasm for learning in children actually begins at home? Ensuring an adequate diet, enough sleep and appropriate television viewing habits are just some of the things that can’t happen in the classroom. Parents can be involved in their child’s learning from an early age, simply by reading or listening to them read. Other ways that you can show your children that education is valued and important include:
· Creating a learning environment for your child at home
· Sharing the responsibility for your child’s education with the school (e.g. attend parent/teacher interviews, ensure that your child completes homework, etc.)
· Show an interest in your child’s learning
· Develop a relationship with your child’s teacher and the school and keep in touch, particularly when you have concerns
· Regularly give your child simple and quick encouragement.
Until next week …
