The Wesburn Weekly December 17

If you were travelling up the Warburton Highway in Wesburn last Wednesday between 12.30 and 2.30 you would have been amazed at the spectacle of 105 kites all flying high above the tree tops. Our kite making and flying day followed by a picnic lunch was one of the best days I have experienced this year. Students decorated their own kites, made them in class, and then the whole school walked to Wesburn Recreation Reserve where we were able to use all the ovals to give us space for flying without tangling (Yeah, right!!! … ask the teachers and parents about this). I hope the parents enjoyed the afternoon as much as we did.

To all the staff and parents who lacked faith in the weather for last night’s Christmas Family Break-Up and recommended putting ‘Plan B’ in place, all I can say is that we are repeatedly blessed on these evenings. It was great to see so many families attending. I would particularly like to thank, once again, the mums who work so hard to provide food for everyone on the night. I’m very pleased that you were able to finish and enjoy the formal part of the evening. Also, thanks to Sharon, Max’s mum, for contacting Santa at the North Pole. It was wonderful that he was able to visit us.

Traditionally, our Christmas Family evenings are very relaxed. It is all about getting together and enjoying the successes of the year and celebrating the Christmas season. But they are also an opportunity to thank the vast numbers of people who make our school a wonderful place to learn, work and just be here. These include School Councillors, Parents & Friends members, mentors, Kitchen Garden volunteers, parent helpers, school lunch volunteers, Brekkie Burras coordinators, people who come in and do the mowing, and much, much more.

Good luck to all the families who are moving on from Wesburn, whether it be because you are moving to another area or graduating to secondary college. You will all be greatly missed. Good luck to Mrs Hottes, who is retiring from teaching. We wish her well in her new ‘career’. Good luck also to Ms Withnall who is moving up to Queensland. We hope you enjoy spending time with your family.

Tonight will be another bitter/sweet occasion as our Grade 6 students graduate. Whilst it is a time to be proud and to recognise 7 years of schooling and wonderful memories, it is also sad farewelling these students and wishing them well in the next stage of their education journey. Nevertheless, I’m sure that they are very excited and we are looking forward to spending time with them before they move on.

Please enjoy the Christmas and New Year Season and make sure that you come back to school safe and well.

Until next year …

Anne
