At Wesburn Primary School, we believe in empowering our students to develop confidence, responsibility and leadership skills.
Through a range of leadership roles including School Captains, House Captains and the School Representative Council, students are given the opportunity to represent their peers, take initiative and contribute meaningfully to school life. These roles foster a sense of pride, teamwork and community involvement across all year levels.
At the end of Grade 5, students are invited to apply for the role of School Captain and School Vice Captain, for the following school year. The School Captains are the student leaders of the school and are positive role models for their peers. School Captains take a central role at weekly assemblies, presenting the Student of the Week and Value Awards and updating the school community regarding past and upcoming events.
Grade 6 students are selected as House Captains. The four houses are Mirrm (Kangaroo/Red), Birrurung (Yarra River/Blue), Barak (William Barak/Green) and Bunjil (Eagle/Yellow). The houses are named in acknowledgment of our indigenous history in the surrounding region. House Captains are responsible for organising the sports borrowing at the beginning and end of every recess and lunch time. House Captains also have a prominent role during our whole school twilight sports event.
One student in each Grade 3-6 class is elected as a member of the School Representative Council by their peers. The role of the SRC is to provide a student voice and assist running school fundraisers. Throughout the year, the School Representative Councillors are given responsibility and opportunities to develop their leadership skills through attendance at SRC meetings and speaking at assembly.
